Actually, the acquisition of Tumblr by Yahoo is a big merger in social network ever since the acquisition of Facebook of Instagra m.

New York Times reports that this is a bald step taken by Yahoo and Meyer to acquire Tumblr. It is also the biggest acquisition taken by Yahoo after the join of Meyer. Meyer hopes that Tulmblr can help Yahoo to enhance its appeal to the young people and make up for the “lose” of Yahoo in the field of social network and mobile Internet.

As we know, Yahoo has a notorious name--”a nightmare for newly-developed companies”in silicon Valley. Because mamy newly-developed companies like Flickr(online photo), GeoCities(personal homage) are losing its charm after being acquired by Yahoo, some even disappear from people’s eyesight.

New York Times reported that after smooth acquisition, Meyer will face the challenge of “ fusing” this two companies together. In particular, Meyer needs to retain the team headed by Karp in Tumblr. Till now, whether all the 175 employees in Tumblr will join the Yahoo remains uncertain.

An analysis ColinGillis in BGC Company said: This is a costly acquisition.But in order to regain what they lost in the past, Yahoo is willing to pay for it and hope to be fashionable again.
